Devlog 08: Gregging up

Week 08

As the weeks before, now we are meeting again on this beautiful Gregging day of the second week of the second Sprint.

Art

Pick ups/ VFX and Death

In the art department this week we won't talk about Greg that much but about his shiny new toys. We are of course talking about pickups. They received brand new Icons and VFX.

Icons, literally shiny right ?

And ofcourse the VFX comes with different power ups, with additions of a smear to create a speed streak behind the character. So you can see where you and your enemies speedily passed by. And then the kill effect to have a satisfaction of seeing your enemies explode .

Level

In the Level itself a couple of changes to the environment have been made. We added some color and tried to create a bit more contrast between the playfield and background.

We tested multiple effects like DOF, bloom and fog.

And made the outline colors for the characters and tried to find a way to exclude objects from using the outline shader.

Controls

And last but not least we made this humble sheet with our game controls.

Programming

This week we implemented the UI for both the join screen as in-game.

The player can now see which color they are picking when in the join menu.

In-game the player can see their score, health and currently collected pickup next to the color they chose during joining.

We also implemented a lot of vfx this week like when a player is invincible and when they use a power up.

We have also recreated the slowFIeld in c++ so the player that places it is ignored and thus not slowed. We have also created the point screen that shows when the timer runs out. It shows the points from high to low.

We have also searched for sound when clicking a button, when the grapple hits a wall or platform, when a player dies, when a player grapples onto another player and for when the player lands on the ground.

We have also made the color of the player show next to the points in the points screen and I started working on restarting the game when clicking a button in the points screen.

So just as always we hope you enjoyed this weeks devvlog and well see ya at the next one.
